A handout will be supplied each week which will contain the passage we will be studying, an outline of its message and questions for discussion. We will take the timeless truths of the Scripture and apply them to our life situations and the challenges we face in our contemporary environment. There will be no homework or preparation required.
The author of 1 John is John the son of Zebedee – the apostle and author of the Gospel of John and the book of Revelation. He was a first cousin of Jesus. It was written somewhere between A.D. 85 and 95 when he was the bishop of Ephesus to counter heretical teachings which were influencing Christian believers. His purpose was to expose false teachers and to give believers assurance of their salvation. “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.” (1 John 5:13)
